Travertine has become very popular in recent years. Travertine is a type of limestone formed along streams, especially in places with waterfalls and hot or cold springs. Calcium carbonate accumulates in places where the water evaporates, leaving behind especially saturated solution of calcite components. Travertine is quarried primarily in the mountains of Turkey, Italy and Jordan.

Travertine comes in white, tan, cream, and rusty colors. The Romans used travertine to build temples, aqueducts, amphitheaters, and more. The Colosseum was built from travertine.
